Joe Goehle

Born:

Joe comes to music from a place of curiosity. Throughout his earliest years, Joe has been interested in exploring how things work and how humans understand their world. His development in music was no different, as he began to explore a multitude of musical instruments in non-traditional ways. With encouragement from local Buffalo musicians, Joe was able to imagine and execute a range of music that spanned the entire gamut of musical genre. He picked up the double bass and began frequent work as a sideman and bandleader throughout upstate New York. While studying with Ottawa bassist John Geggie, Joe was exposed to even more musical styles, eventually settling him into a deep study of modern classical music and the use of improvisation in this setting

Michael Gamble

The Rhythm Serenaders are an aggressively faithful presentation of tightly-arranged, riff-dominated swinging small-group created for a swing dancing public. Careful transcriptions and subtle adaptations of Goodman/Christian Sextet dominate the repertoire, with thoughtful forays into the combo work of Ellington, Basie, as well as some of the later 40’s material put down by Eldridge, especially his time with Artie Shaw. With Laura Windley featured on vocals, the band also explores the wonderful songbook left behind by Billie Holiday during her years with Columbia, where she pulled together some of the hardest swinging players to bring to life some of the greatest pop tunes ever written

By 13, Mark was listening to Lester Young, Charlie Parker, Roy Eldridge and other jazz legends while his school chums were gearing up to Led Zeppelin.
