A band that occasionally reminds us of the so-called Brooklyn sound "or bop n.g." that shook up the New York scene in the 1990’s. Oriol Roca

Born:

Oriol didn’t always know he wanted to be a musician, let alone a percussion player. There was always music at home, though. He remembers listening to classical music recordings with his grandfather at a very early age and playing Beatles tunes on a beat up guitar along with his father and brother when he was in primary school. Drums came later. So did improvised music. He learned the drumming rudiments through a friend, then found himself studying with committed and experienced teachers such as his mentor, German drummer Jo Krause, who encouraged him to move to The Netherlands to study at The Royal Conservatoire in The Hague

Tom Johnson

The band has an unusual instrumentation: trombone, two saxes, double bass and drums. “This is a great opportunity to get stuck in” Isn’t it difficult to create harmonic interest with this line-up? “Definitely not.” Johnson is convinced; “the fact that we have no harmonic instrument has two important implications. First, it means that we can construct a harmony between all of us. When I write I can use up to four notes if I wish to and that’s more than enough to create a rich harmony
