Richard Fuller Quartet
Active since:
The Richard Fuller Quartet began life in St. Louis during the summer of 2004. The band began blending it's traditional jazz roots with a Headhunters funky vibe writing original material that refused to exist within one genre. They released their debut CD entitled "Who is Richard Fuller?" and the title alone spawned interest and debate among those who came to the shows. The bands high energy live performance gained them interest from venues and festivals throughout the city, as they performed original compositions and offered a fresh take on standards. With a slight shift in personnel during 2007 (adding guitar and keys) RFQ have gone on to gain even more popularity in the St

FLY
Active since:
In the era of individual “star” instrumentalists, the idea of a truly collective trio can be a difficult concept to fathom. Yet collectivity is what the FLY trio strives for; and collectivity is what they so unabashedly and unquestionably achieve. Ballard, Grenadier and Turner represent three rather distinct musical personalities — simultaneously complimentary and contrasting — who have created a cohesive unit that expresses each part while creating an uniquely realized whole. In other words, they celebrate the group, without sacrificing the individual. “FLY is progressively bringing together many musical elements, traditions, histories and mysteries,” says Turner

Blue Cranes
Hailing from the fertile scene of Portland, Oregon, the Blue Cranes create music that is as invigorating as it is disarming. Working a thin line between improvisation and catchiness, Blue Cranes arrive at a unique place. They have found a way to make exploration seem like the most enjoyable process around. The group, composed of Reed Wallsmith (alto saxophone), Joe “Sly Pig” Cunningham (tenor saxophone), Rebecca Sanborn (keyboards), Keith Brush (acoustic bass), and Ji Tanzer (drums), began working together as a quintet in 2007 (originally recording as a quartet in 2006). Over the past three years, the band has begun to reap the rewards of a collective articulation: a truly individual sound that depends on the contributions of each member. Blue Cranes have performed at rock, punk and jazz festivals down the West Coast

Flat Earth Society USA tour 2014: 21/06/2014: Rochester Jazz Festival 22/06/2014: Rochester Jazz Festival 24/06/2014: Le Poisson Rouge, New York 25/06/2014: Frick Fine Arts Auditorium, Pittsburgh 26/06/2014: The Jam Factory, Toronto 27/06/2014: Ottawa Jazz Festival "The music is full of bizarre and shocking juxtapositions…but once you’ve got over the sheer oddity, the juxtaposition becomes poetic, though in a surreal way. It’s as if a night scene in a Raymond Chandler novel were suddenly invaded by a flock of seagulls. Vermeersch’s approach is risky, which is what makes it so energising.” (Ivan Hewett — The Telegraph) “Flat Earth Society, a tight 15-piece band led by clarinettist and composer Peter Vermeersch, late of X-Legged Sally. Two brilliant sets confirmed how accomplished they are, twisting rapidly from theatrical bombast to tenderness, collective improv, mad movie-chase music and back to swinging anthems... Wet is Wet presented jazz as envisaged by Goebbels. Vermeersch grins impishly, like a young Daniel Libeskind, as he directs his close-knit ensemble. He is a monster talent, with an outrageously original band.” (John L. Walters — The Guardian, about the concert at the London Jazz Festival, Nov 2007)

Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey
Pianist Brian Haas, drummer Josh Raymer, and bassist/effects wizard/guitarist Reed Mathis occupy a rather unique place in the music world. To say that JFJO's music transcends boundaries is an understatement. Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey's bold, amorphous and visceral music is influenced just as much by post-rock and ambient electronica as traditional jazz standards, chamber music and free improvisation. JFJO's music generates an all-encompasing sensory experience for the listener. Since 1994 JFJO's virtuosic instrumental interplay, uncanny ability to communicate musically and near-telepathic improvisation has won over fans and critics alike all over North America, Europe and South America

Zony Mash
Zony Mash made its debut in late 1995 as the unofficial house band at the OK Hotel in Seattle, where the guys honed their chops with months of weekly gigs. In Zony Mash you'll hear a wide variety of influences, including sixties-style psychedelic rock, the blues and definitely some sounds that could only be described as being from outer space. All of this was amalgamated into something completely original. Although named after a tune by The Meters, Zony Mash was nevertheless not a Meters tribute band. Although Zony Mash drew heavy inspiration from the past, they never succumbed to derivative nostalgia
