JC Hopkins Biggish Band

In addition to concerts and events throughout the country, JC Hopkins Biggish Band notably played two tribute shows honoring—and featuring—seminal jazz songwriter Mose Allison. One decade later, in 2011, the band held its second tribute to Allison, again featuring the jazz great, as well as his daughter Amy Allison. The performance featured vocalist Elvis Costello performing Allison's songs with the Biggish Band as well as guest appearances by Orange Is the New Black star Lea DeLaria, folk singer Jolie Holland, Verve recording artist Lucy Woodward, and jazz singer Sasha Dobson. The Biggish Band has also been featured at Lincoln Center's "Midsummer Night's Swing" and has included songwriter and performance artist Justin Vivian Bond, Joey Arias, Lea DeLaria, as well as jazz pianist and singer Champian Fulton

Spike Orchestra

A large ensemble melding jazz, rock, klezmer, cartoon and the avant-garde into a compelling and cohesive whole, led by Sam Eastmond the Spike Orchestra is dedicated to creating new music and exploring the conceptual limits of the big band, taking what is possible and stretching it to breaking point. Originating in 2012 as a series of workshop sessions by composers Eastmond and Nikki Franklin and inspired by John Zorn's conceptual approach to the rock band with his Naked City project, Carl Stalling, JG Thirlwell and the New York Downtown scene as well as the more obvious big band works of Ellington, Gil Evans and Carla Bley the band has evolved into a formidable studio project. Early experiments and live shows led to a move away from standalone pieces and a pursuit of longer more cohesive works explored in live and early recording experiments

Røgsignal

Røgsignal is one of the first bands mentioned when Danish jazz radio talks about the new sound of jazz from Denmark. The station even chose ‘Bodies’ (2019) as ‘Album Of The Week’, highlighting the colourful, pulsating stream of indie beats and shimmering soundscapes. Though the band is based in Aarhus, the roaring bass lines and ethereal melodies of electric guitars and fender rhodes are deeply rooted in the understated melancholy of rural Denmark. The biggest, Danish jazz blog, Jazznyt, has called Røgsignal “living proof that the young jazz scene in Denmark is thriving” and Politiken, the biggest newspaper in Denmark, thinks that the band is “both master musicians and magnificently meditative in their expression“. Røgsignal has released two EP’s and two well-reviewed full length albums
