Il mondo della metropolitana e della quotidianità newyorchese sono al centro di questo CD, dove si ritrovano alcuni dei più interessanti versi dell'eclettico Roy Nathanson. La cifra stilistica che lo informa ricalca quella dei Lounge Lizard, formazione di culto in cui militò Nathanson, prima di divenire leader ed animatore dei Jazz Passengers.

Non c'è un vero motore centripeto in questa interessante proposta, che trae linfa da varie fonti: jazz e soul, Africa e perfino musica concreta. Una musica magnificamente interpretata, che ben cattura gli umori ed i suoni della Grande Mela, di cui ci viene offerto un ricco quanto convincente ritratto musicale. Suoni della strada ed echi visivi dei graffiti delle stazioni metropolitane completano questo policromo affresco, al quale concorrono versi recitati, musica campionata, acri violini dissonanti e sequenze hip-hop.

Un percorso ricco di suggestioni, dietro le cui strutture si cela l'irrequietezza e l'imprevedibile vivacità della cosmopolita vita newyokese, percorsa con spirito free in tutte le sue pieghe musicali. Ad intesserlo una superba formazione, dove si impongono Marcus Rojas alla tuba e l'ex Jazz Passenger Curtis Fowlkes al trombone. Spicca su tutti i brani la reinterpretazione di un cavallo di battaglia soul ("Love Train") degli O'Jays, per testimoniare la volatilità di un materiale sonoro pregevole, aspro ed a tratti anche gioioso.
