The Jazz Convention: Sound Briefing

Sound Briefing è un ottimo album, suonato magnificamente da musicisti affiatati e preparati sotto ogni aspetto, che però non aggiunge granchè di nuovo a quello che già sappiamo, sia sui componenti del quintetto (attivo da diverso tempo) né sullo stato di forma dell'attuale scena del jazz italiano, o per lo meno della sfera, mediaticamente parlando, più in vista.

Territorio hardboppistico, come ben evidenzia l'iniziale "Yes I Can, No You Can't" (Lee Morgan), nel quale i soli dirompenti di Fabrizio Bosso, quelli timbricamente ben assestati di Gaetano Partipilo e le cascate di note di Claudio Filippini la fanno spesso da padrone. La scaletta è composta da standard, rivisitati senza stravolgerne molto l'essenza e i significati, e originali di sicuro interesse. Come "Il fiore purpureo" di Filippini, già presente nel suo The Enchanted Garden, brano vivace ed elettrizzante che si pone in contrasto positivo con il più sornione "Hozic" di Gaetano Partipilo, il quale non manca di infilare diversi soli densi di fascino. Lascia un ottimo ricordo del suo passaggio anche "In volo," episodio firmato da Bosso nel quale s'avverte un movimento d'insieme messo a punto con precisione. La band, come in "Billie's Bouce" (Charlie Parker), sa mostrare i muscoli e la forza esecutiva di cui è capace, senza perdere mai di vista l'aspetto espressivo della performance.

I dieci brani in programma scorrono in maniera fluida, riuscendo a catalizzare l'attenzione grazie alla personalità dei protagonisti ed a una musica giocata con naturalezza. Attese rispettate in pieno.
