Jonathan Kreisberg: Shadowless
Track review of "Twenty One"
Kreisberg's broad chordal vernacular is heartily emphasized, as he trades fours and spars with saxophonist Will Vinson. Featuring buoyant and odd-metered unison runs, Kreisberg weaves in between the rhythm section's fluid underpinnings, contrasted by his dynamic and tension-building licks. The guitarist remains busy, but it's all purposeful. He tears apart the primary melody with reverse-engineering processes, and cleanly articulates the storyline via mind-bending single-note leads.
The group delivers the knockout blow towards the finale, where the soloists stretch out largely within the upper register. And it's easy to discern that the performers were revved up for the occasion. Kreisberg makes every note count, to complement the synergistic interplay evidenced during the sum of these vividly moving parts.
