Lo smooth jazz non è proprio il massimo dell'innovazione, legato com'è alle aspettative di un pubblico che di solito si trova ad ascoltarlo negli ascensori dei grandi magazzini. Un incentivo per l'acquisto, rilassante anche per chi si innervosisce ascoltando la new age.

I Cats in the Hatz riescono, ed è un'impresa titanica!, a firmare un disco di smooth jazz che mette in mostra l'abilità esecutiva degli autori ed allo stesso tempo evita effetti soporiferi. Un paio di brani probabilmente non avrebbero ricevuto l'approvazione degli autori - "Little Sunflower" di Freddie Hubbard, "Riviera Paradise" di S. R. Vaughn e "Für Elise" di Beethoven - proprio i brani che dovrebbero fare da traino.

Altre cose, tipo "One for My Baby", "Fever", mettono in mostra l'ottima voce di baritono di Steve Johnson, un musicista da non sottovalutare. Fra cose più "leggere" ed altre dal maggiore spessore jazzistico si ascolta nel complesso un disco che mostra il lato migliore del genere smooth.
