Ecco finalmente una produzione in cui il jazz accoglie con intelligenza inflessioni pop che gli consentiranno di andare ben oltre il ristretto pubblico di jazzofili.

In Red Inside, disco di debutto di Antonella Catanese, la cantante contribuisce alla riuscita del disco da un lato con composizioni originali di grande interesse (e testi dedicati all'amore, inteso in tutte le sue sfaccettature, con il suo corredo di passioni e bugie) e, dall'altro, grazie ad arrangiamenti che mettono in bella evidenza una voce che ha metabolizzato la lezione di Norma Winstone e Sheila Jordan. Le radici culturali della cantante vengono ottimamente valorizzate da un gruppo di musicisti che arricchisce ogni brano suonando in maniera personale. Gli ospiti aggiungono un ulteriore contributo, in particolare Max Ionata e Dino Rubino. Una menzione speciale va fatta per la ritmica, fantasiosa e a disposizione del progetto, senza strafare.

Che canti in inglese o in italiano, la Catanese è un'autentica rivelazione grazie ad un disco d'esordio fatto con grande professionalità e ad una gestione del gruppo che le fa evitare i giri a vuoto nel quale molte sue colleghe cadono troppo di frequente in situazioni simili. Fra i brani migliori Like a Tune e Red Inside, mentre l'unica canzone non scritta da lei, Aleria di Pino Daniele, eseguita con il solo accompagnamento del pianoforte di Mazzarino e un breve intervento di Dino Rubino, quasi perde il proprio fascino a paragone con quanto la cantante siciliana ha saputo scrivere e arrangiare.
