Ascoltare musicisti creativi come Simon Nabatov e Mark Dresser costituisce sempre un'esperienza foriera di sorprese. Nel concerto documentato in questo CD si intravede un intelligente gioco di contrappunti, con un libero respiro ritmico che svincola il duo da schemi rigidamente canonizzati. Nell'aperto intreccio a due voci, i colti arpeggi del pianoforte ben si combinano con le linee scure del contrabbasso.

Come era lecito attendersi, l'improvvisazione si dirige verso l'astrattezza e l'aleatorietà delle forme. Si avverte palpabilmente un estemporaneo processo destrutturante della storia jazzistica, che porta i musicisti a polverizzare i canoni in infuocati atomi di note. Ne discende una musica ricca di vibrante espressività, anche se non facilmente decifrabile. Colpisce anche la forza degli strumenti utilizzati come vere e proprie macchie di colore. Dietro l'apparente povertà timbrica della formula si coglie un'energia esecutiva dirompente, che si concentra nel tessere infinite sottigliezze armoniche.

Se questo disco fosse un quadro, sarebbe intessuto più dai contrasti cromatici che dalle linee del disegno. Liberi esploratori timbrici, i due musicisti si muovono lungo la stessa corrente di pensiero, tendendo verso l'ignoto. I loro strumenti si confrontano sugli opposti confini del suono e del silenzio, fra pieni e vuoti, tra composizione e improvvisazione. Ne discende un percorso di grande valenza artistica.
