Format A' 3: Pirate

Ci vuole un po' di pazienza per iniziare ad apprezzare questo quarto lavoro dei Format A' 3 (leggi la recensione di 3e jour , del 2004): prima è necessario abituarsi e comprendere il senso delle atmosfere un po' liquide delle prime tracce ed arrivare a "Les Éclipses", dove l'archetto del contrabbasso di Fabien Sevilla rende conto anche del Rhodes di Alexis Gfeller e degli strani rumori dei sintetizzatori.

Da lì in poi le atmosfere diventano più leggibili e si inseriscono nel particolare momento - creativo, leggero, tra passato jazz elettrico e contemporaneità pop - che sta vivendo la formazione del "piano trio", nel quale Format A' 3 certo non sfigura.

"Nouveau Jour", "Goccia II", "Terra" mostrano infatti la forte coesione dei tre musicisti e le loro ottime qualità strumentali. Sevilla è infatti contrbbassista di rango, dal suono corposo e dai soli coerenti; una volta al piano, anche Gfeller si fa apprezzare per inventiva; Patrick Dufresne ha un modo semplice, ma intelligente e creativo di modificare i ritmi e la sua presenza non è nell’insieme da meno di quella dei compagni. "DSG" e, soprattutto, l’eccellente "Formatique" mostrano infine come i tre sappiano interagire in modo tutt'altro che banale anche in piena improvvisazione.

Un disco da ascoltare, dalle molte facce, che avrebbe suscitato interesse se fosse provenuto da realtà musicali più "alla moda" di quanto non sia la Svizzera.
