Phish at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium
ByJust when it felt like it couldn't get any better, night two somehow topped it. It kicked off with a fired-up "Simple" to get everyone engaged and ready for what was to come. The rest of set one didn't disappoint: a deep, funky "Punch You in the Eye," a playful "Gumbo," a soaring "Reba," and a slamming "David Bowie" made it a first set for the ages. Then set two blasted offa monster "Tweezer," a "Crosseyed" dance party, and a gloriously funky "You Enjoy Myself" to close it out. The band surprised us by skipping "Tweezer Reprise," instead wrapping up the night with some beautiful, reflective moments like a dreamy "Lonely Trip" and a heartfelt "Wading in the Velvet Sea." Of course, they couldn't leave without a high-energy "First Tube" encore.
The Bill Graham Civic Auditorium is an incredible roomrich with history, where so many legendary musicians and bands have graced the stage through the years. From the Grateful Dead to the The Rolling Stones, this storied venue in the heart of San Francisco has seen it all. You can feel the weight of that history, and the energy in the air is almost palpable, as the band and crowd share a deep connection in a place that's seen so much musical greatness. The band is playing so well right nowlocked in, fearless, and capable of taking any tune to new places. Some of these jams have been downright incredible. We're beyond grateful for these two special nights in San Francisco, and we can't wait to see how they close out the tour in Los Angeles.
