Non che le pratiche improvvisative di Sehnaoui e soci non condividano con la ricerca europea degli ultimi quarant'anni elementi, traiettorie e strategie, ma c'è una cifra di grande precisione del gesto, una nettezza dell'intenzione, che fa della ricerca del chitarrista libanese un'esperienza da condividere, qualora si sia disposti a porsi anche come ascoltatori su un terreno di sperimentazione.
Accade anche in questo Old and New Acoustics, costruito attorno alla "To Boldly Go Where No Man Has Gone Before" e alla più concise "Trane," terreni di conquista per tecniche estese [prevalentemente percussive] che fanno generare alla chitarra acustica ipnotici ticchettii, raggelati arpeggi e un allucinato sgocciolio di note che sembrano rapprendersi come mercurio al contatto con la membrana uditiva.
Folk alieno, gesto autistico di bambino contro una ringhiera infinita, delicatissima esplorazione molecolare del vibrare delle corde... vecchie e nuove acustiche.
