Yang Jing - Christy Doran: No. 9

Irlandese lui, cinese lei. Da tempo residenti in Svizzera. Le loro culture sono partite da luoghi lontanissimi ma dimostrano di potersi incontrare, trovando innumerevoli punti di intesa. Anche i loro strumenti sono in parte omologhi (per la parte strutturale), in parte lontanissimi (per il linguaggio sin qui sviluppato). Ma non ci dobbiamo meravigliare se la pipa cinese e la chitarra elettrica occidentale, sanno dialogare con la giusta energia e la necessaria compenetrazione.

La musica parte con la giusta lentezza e circospezione, in un viaggio in territori acquatici e soleggiati, per poi giungere al finale intrigante di "In a Silent Way," unico brano proveniente dal repertorio jazzistico. Le suggestioni acustiche della pipa si attorcigliano attorno ai sospiri elettrici della chitarra Duesenberg di Doran, uno strumento che assomiglia tantissimo alle mitiche Gretsch, chitarre solitamente associate al country e al rock californiano, ma anche ai Beatles.

Gli equilibri scaturiscono magicamente senza sforzo apparente, con Doran che cavallerescamente sembra lasciare, per la maggior parte del tempo, la conduzione melodica alla pipa di Yang Jing. Potrebbe sembrare un paradosso, ma non lo è. Infatti la chitarra acustica è storicamente diventata elettrica per poter avere un maggior volume di suono e nel passaggio ha acquisito anche una dignità importante di strumento solista, diventando fra l'altro uno strumento del tutto autonomo. Ma in questo caso la potenza di fuoco (il volume) non è un dato progettuale importante e considerato. E allora l'amplificazione serve semmai per portare alla nostra attenzione i sospiri timbrici e le divagazioni tonali. Un tessuto connettivo raffinato e minimalista sul quale la pipa funziona benissimo. Ma per spiegare la magia di questo abbinamento non bastano le componenti tecniche, va messa in conto anche la grande sensibilità dei due interpreti. Davvero bravi.
