Vocalist/composer/lyricist Alexa Barchini has a Bachelor’s degree in vocal jazz performance from Temple University, where she studied with veteran performers/educators Joanna Pascale, Dick Oatts, Bruce Barth and Terell Stafford. With a particular interest in the music of Brazil, her compositions fuse her deep love of jazz and jazz singing — rich harmonies, a capacity for story telling, and improvisatory freedom — with playful Latin-influenced rhythms and the warm, understated style of singers like Joao Gilberto. Over the past few years, Barchini has performed with a number of regional and national artists, including Kurt Rosenwinkel, Gilad Hekselman, John Swana and Wycliffe Gordon.

Jazz Bridge, a 501C3 nonprofit organization formed in 2004, is dedicated to assisting professional Greater Philadelphia Metro area jazz and blues musicians and vocalists in times of crisis by providing confidential and caring support in keeping with their personal dignity. Through donations, grants, and the presentation of more than 40 jazz events each year, Jazz Bridge assists those coping with emergencies involving health, legal, financial, personal and professional needs, while building an awareness of the local jazz community's rich heritage and tradition.
