Aych is a trio comprising Mary Halvorson guitaristry, Jim Hobbs saxophone honing and Taylor Ho Bynum cornettery in some serene survey of juxtapositions Mr. Hobbs variously describes as “porch music"

This will be a Boston premiere as is a cd release show for the newly reshaped Taylor Ho Bynum Sextet brought to ears as Apparent Distance from the Firehouse 12 label.

The sextet will entail the augmentation of Aych, above, with Bill Lowe in a bass trombone and tuba deployment, Ken Filiano fully engaged with bass and Tomas Fujiwara up to his ears in drumming.

“Hobbs' music is humble, human, approachable and at the same time a frighteningly deep exposition of musical concepts. Then there's the staggering showcase of contemporary instrumental technique. Babe Ruth comes to mind: Hobbs swings hard and hits home runs." Stanley Jason Zappa.

“As the Crow Flies" with Aych will be released by Relative Pitch Records early in 2012.

The program will be a stunning end to an exceptional year of performances. Among the highlights were visits by Bill Elgart, an Adam Rudolph and Joseph Bowie duet, a Darius Jones trio and a special duet gathering of Hobbs with Matthew Shipp for Jazz Week supported in part by a generous contribution from All About Jazz.

The coming year is larded with promise with the arrival of Bern Nix on January 28th with Dave Bryant, Jacob William and Eric Rosenthal.

The Outpost is your place to discover Boston area free jazz innovation in an intimate setting dedicated to music.

The Gallery walls will be bedecked with the photos of area musicians captured by Lillian Graham in the closing days of her exhibit.

The Outpost evening begins at 8pm with a 10 dollar donation in an all ages, family friendly environment found at 186 1/2 Hampshire Street in Inman Square, Cambridge MA.
