Maxim Lubarsky
Maxim Lubarsky is a virtuoso pianist known for his stylistic versatility and musicality, making him one of the most sought-after players. A native of Odessa, Ukraine, he began his classical piano education at age 7 at the renowned Stolyarsky School of Music under the mentorship of his father, a renowned pianist and faculty member. He later studied with Evilina Kovalenko at the Odessa State Conservatory, where he earned his master’s degree. During his conservatory years, he founded the jazz group Art Session, touring extensively across Europe while maintaining an active classical performance career with solo recitals and orchestral engagements.
Following his passion for jazz, Lubarsky moved to the U.S. to study at Berklee College of Music, learning from legendary mentors including Joanne Brackeen, Danilo Pérez, Hal Crook, and Joe Lovano. He was awarded the BEST scholarship and the Berklee Technics Piano Award in 2002.
Lubarsky has recorded and performed with world-class artists such as Terri Lyne Carrington, Dave Samuels, Greg Osby, E.J. Strickland, Gabrielle Goodman, Dave Liebman, and Tiger Okoshi. He co-leads the Macayú Jazz Chamber Trio, TRIAD Laton Jazz Trio and leads the Maxim Lubarsky Quartet. He also pianist and music director with Gabrielle Goodman.
His festival appearances include the St. Petersburg Music Fest (Russia), Spoleto Festival (SC), Beantown Jazz Festival(MA), Diacetum Festival (Italy), Usadba Jazz Festival (Russia), ArtNaples Festival (FL), and Cambridge Jazz Festival(MA), Black Sea Jazz Weekend (Ukraine) among others.
Lubarsky’s recordings include Explorations in Sound (with Gabriela Martina), Intimately, The Macayú Trio, I’ll Be Around, Musical Journey, C’est Si Bon – Live at The BPC, Unsaid, and Brazilia: Live at the Pump House – Celebrating Wayne Shorter to name a few.
He continues to perform actively in Boston, New York, and internationally, and has given masterclasses in China, South Africa, and Russia. Maxim Lubarsky is an Associate Professor in the Piano Department at Berklee College of Music.
