Judy Marshak

Over the years, Judy Marshak has gained respect and admiration in many facets of the entertainment industry - theatre, television, film, radio, voiceover, and music. However, the release of her first solo CD, "A Matter of Time", is perhaps the most gratifying and exciting project to date. Long known as a "singer's singer", Judy's rich, pitch perfect voice has graced jazz clubs and concert halls across the country. Her highly praised cabaret shows, jazz vocal trios, musical theatre roles, and various recording scenarios have kept Judy constantly involved in the music world, but turning points in her personal life stimulated a growing passion to write songs, and the desire to record these songs lead her to esteemed jazz artist John Alcorn to be producer/collaborator/arranger on this journey. Their partnership has resulted in what Judy feels is the pinnacle of her career to date - an album of soulful, sometimes whimsical, sexy, grooving, feel good music, with lyrics that reflect love and loss and coming of age. Long hailed as a gifted song interpreter, critics and fans are now applauding her as a songwriter too. Having assembled some of Canada's top notch jazz musicians and technicians, the album's sound is lush and layered. Add Judy's unique vocal style - a subtle blend of innocence and soul - and you have an intimate and heartfelt CD that we promise will make you smile more than once. JAZZ.FM91 included "A Matter of Time" in their list of the Best and Brightest New Releases of 2009. It is currently featured on the regular play lists at JazzFM91, CBC Radio, CHRY105.5FM, 88.1FM, CIUT89.5FM, WOSR-Radio, iRadioLA-Indie104, and many other live streaming internet stations.

"Broken Radio" also won first place in the Jazz Category of the 2009 West Coast Songwriters International Song Contest.

The title song, "A Matter of Time", won First place in the Front and Centre Songwriting Competition at The St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts.

SELECTED PRESS for Judy Marshak and "A Matter of Time"

"..at long last, veteran showstopper Judy Marshak has finally released her first album, A Matter Of Time, and as expected, it’s a musical bonbon to savour. Marshak brings a unique interpretation to tunes by Harold Arlen, Joni Mitchell and Randy Newman, but the real revelation is the calibre of her lyrical collaborations with John Alcorn, including the title track (not to be confused with the John Kander-Fred Ebb song created for the 1976 Minnelli film of the same name.) Add such top-of-the-heap musicians as Rob Piltch, Marc Rogers, Denis Keldie, Guido Basso and Davide Direnzo, and your ears will thank you for listening" GEORGE ANTHONY - CBC
