Vocalist Deborah J. Carter was born in the U.S.A. and grew up in Hawaii and Japan. She travels extensively performing in jazz festivals, jazz clubs, seminars, and radio and TV shows through Europe and Asia with her trio or as a guest with various formations; from solo pianists to large orchestras. While on tour, she has also given master classes, often sponsored by US embassies all over the world.
This vocalist / composer / arranger definitely brings her multi - cultural experiences into her music. "We are so privileged in this day and age to have an open door to other cultures and perspectives that enrich our own." And she brings it to light through her style. Described by the Music Maker magazine as "absolutely top-class", she is one of the most dynamic vocalists in the jazz scene.
“One of the most significant American-born jazz singers based in Europe (having lived 15 years in Spain and nearly that many in the Netherlands), Deborah Carter is a delight to hear. Not only does she have a very appealing voice and a thorough understanding of jazz, but her enthusiasm is infectious. A regular at jazz festivals, an important educator, and a frequent guest with big bands, she is most often heard with her regular trio which is featured (along with guests) throughout Blue Notes and Red Shoes.
Deborah Carter has accomplished a great deal during her career thus far, and she is very much in her prime these days. Blue Notes and Red Shoes serves as a perfect introduction to her joyful artistry.”
