About the Album
Prisoner of Love is a Jazz standard composed by Russ Columbo and Clarence Gaskill with lyrics by Leo Robin. This track was recorded live at Gus's final PhD Recital at the University of Tasmania where his research looked into the improvisational idiosyncracies of Lester Young, how that informed the individual stylings of Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon and Wayne Shorter, and, in turn, how this knowledge would help Gus begin developing an individual voice as a saxophonist and improviser while still acknowledging the jazz greats who developed the language.
