About the Album

For many years Philadelphia composer and trumpeter John Vanore has been working on an epic work for a large jazz ensemble inspired by Easter Island, one of the loneliest places on earth. This striking, memorable suite was well worth the wait. “Gods & Devils” is a full-throttle piece inspired by the spiritual culture of Easter Island. Vanore’s trumpet represents gods, while a burning extended solo by tenor saxophonist Bob Howell represents a darker force, before the rest of the band cries out like a village to bring the track to an exciting and satisfying conclusion.
