About the Album

On the Beak is the second album by pianist composer Jason Whatley. Jason's compositions admit the unmistakable influence of great jazz modernists like Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus and Wayne Shorter. Track three, Bitch in Blue, is a bluesy number with gritty, unsentimental solos and a restrained, hypnotic groove.
