Inciso al Blue Note di New York, questo CD riunisce una big band stellare comprendente alcuni dei migliori jazzisti contemporanei. La guida il magnifico sassofonista Jimmy Heath, uno dei musician's musicians per eccellenza nel jazz. Sembra incredibile, ma questo è solo il suo terzo CD per big band in 60 anni di carriera a fronte di una abilità di arrangiamento attestata già negli anni '50. Trattandosi di un concerto celebrativo (i festeggiamenti del suo ottantacinquesimo genetliatico), è un disco festoso e gioioso dove si condensano tutti i tratti del modern mainstream per orchestra jazz.

Attraverso un magistrale lavoro di variazione dei brani, le composizioni originali del sassofonista sono riproposte sotto forma di un cangiante affresco musicale coerente ed unitario. Emergono gustosi giochi di chase tra le sezioni fiati all'insegna della gioia di suonare e condividere forti emozioni musicali. Si impone come sempre la raffinata scrittura del leader, ricca di livelli espressivi differenti sino a coprire un arco espressivo a lui congeniale, tra il linguaggio post-bop ed aromi latini. Tra i solisti, oltre ad Heath, spiccano Antonio Hart, Charles Davis e Roy Hargrove.
