Thomas Heberer's Clarino: Klippe One

In questo doppio LP, il trombettista quarantacinquenne Thomas Heberer, tedesco ma stabilitosi a New York, presenta due facce della sua ricerca estetica. I primi nove brani lo vedono in trio col clarinettista belga Joachim Badenhorst ed il bassista franco-tedesco Pascal Niggenkemper: emergono un interplay misurato, un intreccio poco appariscente ed approcci strumentali poco virtuosistici, basati su una scrittura scarna, lineare, quasi monotona. Nei successivi dieci brani invece Heberer, in solitudine, si dedica alla respirazione circolare per intraprendere percorsi non molto diversi fra loro, ma esasperando di volta in volta gli aspetti timbrici con una vasta gamma di forzature tecniche.

In tutto l'album sono certo da apprezzare la puntigliosa coerenza progettuale, le variazioni timbriche che increspano i vari brani e l'intimo colloquio fra i tre strumentisti nei brani in trio. Tuttavia settantotto minuti sono veramente troppi per una musica che privilegia la staticità ritmica, un limitato rilievo melodico e armonico, una lenta e decantata evoluzione del discorso sonoro; una musica che proprio per queste caratteristiche dovrebbe perseguire una sintesi essenziale, un prosciugamento di stampo weberniano, anziché una dilatazione che diviene un'insistita e dimostrativa esposizione del medesimo concetto.
