Mina Agossi: Just Like a Lady

Mina Agossi continua il suo cammino verso le altissime vette dominate dalle poche regine rimaste nell'ambito della vocalità jazz, con un disco che ne conferma le doti e la personalità. Una personalità forte che però non viene mai utilizzata per forzare la mano nel rapporto con il proprio pubblico che rimane sempre dialogico e stimolante.

Questo percorso impervio viene affrontato dalla giovane cantante con agilità e passione, piegando la voce agli sbalzi sacri dell'ispirazione, una sorgente che le sgorga dentro fortissima come se fosse lava incandescente che si deforma e si conforma negli spazi lasciati liberi dal cadere delle convenzioni. Una ispirazione forte ma minimalista allo stesso tempo che ci fa venire in mente la ormai famosa battuta (attribuita indifferentemente ad Einstein, ad Hemingway e forse a qualcun'altro) che il successo è dato all'uno per cento dall'ispirazione e al novantanove per cento dalla traspirazione. Dal sudore, insomma.

Il repertorio è deliziosamente virato verso il colore seppia, con una apprezzabile alternanza di brani originali e di capolavori della musica brasiliana, del rock, del pop francese e della tradizione jazzistica. La versione di "Burning of the Midnight Lamp" è declamatoria e surreale, solidamente espressiva, capace di piegare il testo visionario di Jimi Hendrix alle esigenze espressive della cantante francese.

In questo disco una parte importante la riveste il produttore Phil Reptil, una sorta di Daniel Lanois europeo, che aggiunge importanti sapori alla ricetta originale minimalista, ben nota, di Mina Agossi che prevede solo voce, basso acustico e batteria. In realtà Reptil lavora per contiguità e si guarda bene dal prevaricare il minimalismo di fondo che rimane fortunatamente la cifra espressiva di questo ottimo lavoro.
