Michael Camacho: Just for You

Una serie di standards e cinque originals questo CD di Michael Camacho, elegante cantante statunitense, che fra l'altro ripesca pure "Norwegian Wood" beatlesiana memoria. Camacho possiede una voce molto vellutata ed un bel senso ritmico, che gli permette di entrare subito in sintonia con il repertorio proposto.

La musica procede morbida ed accattivante, senza scadere nell'easy listening, grazie anche ad una sezione ritmica di alto livello, che swinga competente evitando scivolate di gusto. Con lui c'è, ma solo nella title-track, il batterista di Palermo Marcello Pellitteri, che dá il suo bel contributo.

I brani di Camacho non appaiono particolarmente originali, tuttavia sono nobilitati dagli assoli del sassofonista Dan Block. Da sottolineare è anche il contributo del pianista Tim Regusis, che in ogni brano dà un bel contributo di eleganza, classe esecutiva, swing.

Il disco ha una coerenza inattaccabile, grazie al forte temperamento di Camacho. L'arrangiamento di "Norwegian Wood", ad esempio, trasforma la famosa canzone in uno standard jazz, cercando una via alternativa ai modelli più battuti. La tradizione è un punto di riferimento inossidabile e Camacho appare piú un musicista da club che da grandi platee.
