Credenziali di tutto rispetto queste. Se si aggiungesse che è stato a fianco di George Benson e Lou Donaldson, che ha suonato con musicisti del calibro di Randy Brecker e Dizzy Gillespie, tra gli altri, si ha ben chiaro il quadro artistico di questo autentico innovatore e perfezionista dell’organo Hammond. Ha anche affascinato la generazione acid e quella degli innovatori rock: il talento creativo di Beck, non si è fatto sfuggire l’occasione di utilizzare il sampling di “I Walk on Guilded Splinters” nella fortunata cantilena d “Loser”.
Jungle Soul, il suo ultimo CD, esprime al meglio la sua carica timbrica e il suo savoir faire. Accanto a composizioni originali (la title track, “Jungle Wisdom”), spiccano le cover di “Trouble Man” (Marvin Gaye), in cui il sapore soul si tinge di jazz da intrattenimento, e le suggestioni modali della monkiana “Bemsha Swing”.
