Restless, agile, but with a steady course: this is how one could describe the malamute, the Alaskan sledge dog, and this description is also appropriate for the eponymous New York band lead by drummer Jim Black and featuring Oskar Gudjonsson on tenor saxophone, Elias Stemeseder on keyboards and Chris Tordini on bass. The four musicians cannot be pinned down to one genre. Together they create a unique style with seemingly incompatible elements: warm-blooded tenor sax, jumpy keyboards and propulsive bass and drum grooves.Drummer Jim Black keeps the boundaries of jazz and rock shifting, in all the bands he played, from Human Feel (featuring Kurt Rosenwinkel), Tim Berne's Bloodcount to Tiny Bell Trio with Dave Douglas.
