Jazz Near You Needs You!

With the launching of Jazz Near You in nearly 200 cities worldwide, Max, Anna and myself (a.k.a. the development team) are planning the next phase of the project to refine the website and develop new features.

Jazz Near You functions beautifully and we are anxious to improve our service, but we realize that our service is only as reliable as the content entered.

As a crowd-sourced website and with a modest staff to validate entered data, we rely on presenters, musicians and others to submit venue and events listings, and we hope that what is entered is accurate, complete and professional.

We're not Wikipedia and we currently do not have a staff of data editors. With less than a handful of people at our disposal, we need to build local teams in each city to enter and validate information and spread the word about our fabulous service.

As a Jazz Near You editor, this simply requires completing venue listings with missing address information, deleting duplicate listings, correcting erroneous listings and adding missing venues and festivals.

I've spent countless hours correcting venue and festival listings and I've developed shortcut methods to fix, complete and delete venues, so the work itself is simple and takes very little time. Also, when you work on your city's page is strictly up to you and we fully appreciate any time you can spare.

Completing existing venue information

Go to the venue page at Jazz Near You, scan the list and identify venues with missing addresses. Once you find a missing address, click the venue link, then use Google to search for the venue to retrieve the address.

Just highlight and copy the street address through the phone number to your clipboard, paste the information into the appropriate boxes on the venue's edit form, click the update button and you're done.

Deleting duplicates is simple too. Once you receive administrative access to Jazz Near You, you'll see a "Delete" link associated with every row on the venue listing page. If you see a duplicate venue listing, click its corresponding "Delete" link and it will be deactivated on the spot.
