The Tolga Quartet: I've Found A New Baby
Il chitarrista olandese (ma di madre originaria del Suriname) Jowan Zoutendijk e il contrabbassista spagnolo Pablo Millas Pages sostengono ritmicamente le interpretazioni del leader alla chitarra, mentre il multistrumentista inglese Marcin Wright (che vive sull’appennino tosco-emiliano) lo affianca al clarinetto nella front line, in un approccio esecutivo sostanzialmente classico.
Anche se complessivamente non presenta particolari elementi di originalità, il disco si ascolta con piacere, un po’ per la presenza di evergreen, un po’ perché anche il Gipsy Jazz merita di essere riproposto con cura filologica e spirito critico, come sembra fare il Tolga Quartet, ma soprattutto perché decisamente ben suonato da parte di tutti e quattro i protagonisti, tra i quali merita una menzione in più Marcin Wright, che al clarinetto si esprime in modo davvero notevole (si ascolti in proposito, ad esempio, la sua interpretazione in “Hunn, O Pani Naschella”).
