Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood: In Case the World Changes Its Mind Live
Ma l'avventura con Scofield è molto di più rispetto ad una collaborazione occasionale: è il matrimonio di sensibilità provenienti da aree diverse sia in termini stilistici, sia in termini anagrafici, che si sommano magicamente, aumentando di gran lunga quello che sarebbe il semplice risultato matematico.
Probabilmente per Sco è come tornare indietro sulla macchina del tempo in termini anagrafici e allo stesso tempo fare invece un balzo nel futuro in termini stilistici. E questo doppio salto esalta la sua creatività e gli fa riscoprire belle energie con la sua chitarra corrosiva e pungente. Allo stesso tempo per John Medeski, Billy Martin e Chris Wood avere al loro fianco un mito come John Scofield è una cosa talmente insperata che serve a fare rilucere ulteriormente le loro incredibili qualità di trio che marcia imperterrito come se fosse una creatura unica e trina alla stesso tempo (mmm... non vi ricorda qualcosa?)
Non ci sono sorprese particolari nelle scelte di repertorio e la scaletta alterna brani di Scofield con composizioni collettive e con un paio di tradizionali arrangiati per l'occasione. Anche da un punto di vista tecnico questi dodici brani sono registrati benissimo e l'editing del collega/amico Jamie Saft è pressoché perfetto. Basta chiudere gli occhi e far finta di essere di fronte al palco: al resto pensano loro.
