Evan Christopher Quartet plus New Orleans All Stars Band: Genoa Meets New Orleans

All'instancabile Giorgio Lombardi, critico di jazz tradizionale e direttore artistico del Louisiana Jazz Club di Genova è riuscito di mettere insieme alla ritmica italiana di Guido Cairo, Aldo Zunino e Andrea Roventini un paio di fuoriclasse americani del genere trad in occasione di una serata dedicata alla città di New Orleans allora - nel Gennaio del 2007 - ancora sconvolta dalle forze dell'uragano Katrina.

Il disco presenta l'intero concerto con Wendell Brunious, Sammy Rimington e Evan Christopher che entrano subito in sintonia con i musicisti locali dedicandosi a famosi brani che ascoltiamo da sempre, in versioni più o meno buone, dai gruppi che fanno Dixieland. Sammy Rimington al clarinetto ed al sax alto ha modo di esprimersi con il suo linguaggio espressivo, mentre Evan Christopher, al clarinetto, si presenta come un musicista dal livello tecnico molto elevato, specie su "Linger Awhile", con l'accompognamento del solo trio. E pure Brunious si ritaglia il suo momento di gloria con "I Cover the Waterfront", con un assolo di tutto rispetto.

Ognuno dei tre ospiti ha modo di mettersi bene in mostra, grazie alla duttilità con cui Guido Cairo e gli altri li accompagnano. In sei pezzi troviamo anche il trombonista Luciano Invernizzi, perfettamente integrato in una front line con Brunious e Sammy Rimington, facendo dell'esibizione qualcosa di speciale, da ascoltare ora su supporto digitale.
