Vito Liturri: From Beyond

With every note suspended luxuriously in the air so you can savor its resonance, this sonorously produced and beautifully played second recording from the Vito Liturri Trio is, from "Albe's Garden" to "An Empty Room" (all titles English translations) a delicious listen.

The trio -Vito Liturri—piano, synth, electronics, Marco Boccia—double bass, and drummer/percussionist Lello Patruno play with a unified, seasoned integrity and an intuitive, emotional melodic desire. Languid creativity abounds and the interplay between the three players is assured and comradely. "The Black Temple" with its starts and stops sings with ancient voices. "Timeless Grace" is precisely what the title promises, an impressionistic ballad of redemption. The punchy and rollicking "Prelude" gives itself over to the tunefulness of the namesake track, its electronics adding a tint of romance. The electric narrative "Interlude" follows, with Patruno's percussion accentuating the shadows. Boccia's double bass introduces and paces "The Moon, the Reverb and . . ." as the leader comes in with melodic line after line, blurring harmonies into the softness of "Just A Dreamer." The closing "An Empty Room" isn't bleak as the title might suggest, but a wistful trio workout. I repeat: a delicious listen.
