Eddie Gomez - Cesarius Alvim: Forever

Il sessantenne Cesarius Alvim, brasiliano di nascita e francese d'adozione, è noto principalmente come contrabbassista, ma è anche un eccellente pianista di osservanza evansiana e con alcune reminiscenze classiche. Qui è in coppia per l'appunto con uno dei contrabbassisti di Evans, Eddie Gomez, con il quale mette in scena un vero e proprio omaggio al Maestro, per atmosfere, tocco pianistico e ruolo del contrabbasso.

Lo si può apprezzare nello standard "Spring Is Here," dilatato e disteso, riproposto con estrema fedeltà eppure estremamente toccante per le sonorità soffuse del piano e per l'ampio commento del contrabbasso, vera voce solista. Ma lo si respira per tutto il lavoro, per quasi metà firmato da Alvim - particolarmente bella "Ode to a Dream," con Gomez che giganteggia sia all'archetto che al pizzicato - ma che ha per apice la dolce e malinconica title track, di Gomez, nella quale sembra davvero di ascoltare Evans.

Un lavoro meditativo e dialogico, totalmente paritetico, di grande godibilità per temi e clima, ma gustoso anche per la straordinaria classe dei due interpreti, con Gomez che a più riprese offre vere e proprie lezioni di contrabbasso moderno.
