Guerriglieri del groove, combattenti del new funky, estremisti della fusion: questo CD - compilation è un bignami delle nuove tendenze. Ma non solo.

Uno dopo l’altro, in una sfilata di talenti straordinari (Soulive, Groove Warriors, Medeski, Martin & Wood, tra gli altri), gli artisti chiamati a “raccolta” mostrano quanto la lezione di padri e “padrini” del funk sia ancora molto attuale e piena di possibilità stilistiche in divenire.

Avi Bortnick (già chitarra Überjam Band di John Scofield) sguazza tra blob elettronici e groove funky alla maniera del miglior Prince, mentre Sam Kininger sembra aver rubato con “32-84-31-St.” il pathos (e qualcos’altro) al miglior James Brown. C’è pure un gradito cameo di Marcus Miller.

Il funk servito caldo e al punto giusto.
