El Comité: Wonderwall

Scott Lichtman By Scott Lichtman

View read count
What do you get when you form a band from seven of Cuba's top Latin jazz performers? Answer: It's a committee, or rather El Comite, a working band that first discovered their mutual talents and blended sound at one serendipitous concert together. Sure, there are other Latin jazz bands of greater renown, but this one seems to groove on percussion with a bit more dynamism, swing more smoothly across the horns, create a tad more beauty on piano, and propel the compositions with that much more energy from the locked-in bass and drums. You can hear the combined effect, along with their modern sensibilities, in the cover of Oasis' alt-rock classic, "Wonderwall." Looking for more "committee output"? Try "Intro to Wonderwall," also linked below, which highlights pianist Rolando Luna's lush solo playing.
