L´ascolto di due batterie che si incontrano/scontrano dul palcoscenico è qualcosa che non lascia indifferenti. Questa formula non è proprio una novità se si pensa alla storica incisione ESP di Sunny Morgan e Milford Graves o all´incontro di Tarasov e Andrew Cyrille, ma qui, davanti al pubblico giapponese, la musica dello svizzero Heinz Geisser e di Shiro Onuma acquista qualcosa di speciale. Sembra un rito sciamanico, con i tamburi scatenati, un modo di staccare la spina dal conscio per lasciarsi trascinare da ritmi che toccano l´inconscio.

Geisser ha già inciso abbastanza nel genere free, fra l´altro con il pianista Guerino Mazzola, dallo stile simile a quello di Cecil Taylor per l´uso percussivo che fa dello strumento, e si trova perfettamente a suo agio, così come gli ascoltatori presenti, insieme ai ritmi del collega giapponese. La forza che emanano è simile ad un gorgo che tutto trasporta, una folata di vento inarrestabile. Anche sull´impianto di casa grazie alla buona registrazione si ha un effetto simile: gli strumenti sono ben dettagliati e sembrano quasi abbattersi con impeto nello spazio in cui viene riprodotta la performance.

I due batteristi hanno trovato la via per collegare i ritmi ancestrali alla libertà espressiva del free: un´impresa che ad ogni ascolto non perde l´energia accumulata sul palco giapponese.
