Massimo Pirone: Directly from the Heart

Si sviluppa attraverso quattordici brani - la maggior parte dei quali originali - Directly from the Heart, album a firma del trombonista Massimo Pirone, in questo episodio leader di una formazione coesa nelle intenzioni e vogliosa di assemblare jazz con decisione hard-bop, movenze funk e atteggiamenti swinganti.

Un blend stilistico che si traduce in un ascolto piacevole e mai scontato, di un repertorio costruito attorno al timbro roccioso e gutturale del leader, il quale beneficia degli interventi decisivi di Riccardo Fassi, sia al pianoforte ma soprattutto alle tastiere che rimandano in mente fascinosi scenari anni '70, che del chitarrista Stefano Nencha, pronto nel fraseggio e vivace in alcuni spazi solitari. Tra i molti fast proposti, in scaletta si fanno apprezzare anche momenti di maggiore introspezione, che emamanano eleganza formale e che, come nel caso di "Dory," vedono Pirone dar fondo al pieno feeling con lo strumento.

Disco ben congeniato e che fino all'ultimo riserva interessanti sorprese, come il funky acido che contraddistingue "B.Groove," le spigolature melodiche di "Looking for a Job" e la bella interpretazione di "Where or When" di Rodgers & Hart. Infine, da segnalare tra i molti ospiti la presenza del trombonista Bill Watrous nella sontuosa "Nancy".
