L'idea era quella di fondere i ritmi della tradizione brasiliana con la fusion degli anni'80. Un'idea non certo brillantissima e a conti fatti abbastanza retrò, che però potrà soddisfare i nostalgici del genere. Neto suona pianoforte, Fender Rhodes e flauto con grande perizia su una risaputa onda ritmica che caratterizza un progetto non certo all'altezza delle capacità progettuali e musicali del leader.

Current è un disco che si inserisce nel solco di una tradizione gloriosa che vanta dagli Azimuth a Flora Purim per ben altri e più pregnanti esiti. Il quintetto si limita così a riproporre esiti di cui si sa già tutto in partenza. La musica proposta è di indiscutibile gusto ma troppo levigata perché il leader non è riuscito ad aggiungere grande personalità al modello di riferimento. I brani originali non graffiano ma risultano gradevoli e solari grazie ad una distesa comunicativa.
