Mary Halvorson - Reuben Radding - Nate Wooley: Crackleknob
Se uso questo termine, ben conscio tra l'altro di venire probabilmente frainteso, lo faccio non perché nelle intenzioni dei tre musicisti ci sia un qualsivoglia evidente messaggio in tale direzione, ma perché la scelta di un linguaggio comune di questo tipo spinge l'ascoltatore a prendere una posizione, a rinnovare o innovare una propria consapevolezza.
Scheletrico, spastico, angoloso, frammentario, talvolta disturbante, ma mai privo di un sottile lirismo, il lessico del trio si muove tra la libera improvvisazione, le extended techniques, un camerismo parsimonioso e attentissimo agli equilibri timbrici, una continua negoziazione dei rapporti tra i tre strumenti.
Momenti come "In the Teeth of Ideology" ci immettono in una sorta di polverosa città fantasma dove ci sembra di barcollare in preda a qualche sostanza psicotropa [e la tromba di Wooley è di una malinconia lancinante], mentre i suoni alieni di "Libidinous Objects & The Decay of Self" si contrappongono al blues allucinatorio e ossessivo di "Quavering Voices of the Mutilated," rinnovando a ogni passaggio quel patto di complicità tra musicista e ascoltatore che è alla base di ogni [mal]sano rapporto artistico.
Scordatevi di rilassarvi, ma vi ricorderete di sapere emozionarvi.
