Gábor Gadó: Byzantinum
Se nei suoi album precedenti avevamo registrato con piacere una costante evoluzione ed una interessante ricerca, qui ci pare che il chitarrista subisca una battuta d'arresto. Ispirato a frammenti apocrifi dell'Apocalisse, Byzantinum è infatti il più marcatamente jazzistico (e dunque il meno personale) dei suoi lavori, sia dal punto di vista del linguaggio che delle strutture melodiche. Un jazz dalle forme spesso libere e sospese, quasi a sottolineare la cupezza del tema (esemplare la decima traccia), tanto che i rari momenti strutturati (ad esempio l'ultima traccia, dal titolo in alfabeto cirillico) vengono accolti con sollievo.
Siamo insomma di fronte ad un'opera che, per la sua natura intrinseca, richiede all'ascoltatore una dose di attenzione e concentrazione molto elevata. Un'opera che risulta dunque più adatta ad una fruizione dal vivo che ad un ascolto su CD.
