02. Ornette Coleman - The Shape of Jazz to Come/Free Jazz (Atlantic -1959/1961).
Questa musica ha indicato una nuova libertà espressiva.
03. Albert Ayler - Spiritual Unity (ESP - 1964).
Questa è musica che ha passione, spazio e una nuova storia da raccontare, e adoro l’attacco e la posizione delle note di Gary Peacock. Tuttora una straordinaria lezione di freschezza.
04. Bill Evans - Sunday at the Village Vanguard/Waltz for Debby (Riverside - 1961/1962).
Qui Scott la Faro evidenzia una fluidità nel pizzicato impressionante e a tutt’oggi il suo modo di suonare rappresenta un riferimento imprescindibile per aspiranti bassisti. Musica senza tempo.
05. Charles Mingus - Black Saint and the Sinner Lady (Impulse - 1963).
Rappresenta un lavoro fondamentale sugli ensemble di larghe dimensioni nella musica jazz. Mingus lavoro ancora all’interno della forma, ma ben aldilà della normale pedagogia jazzistica. E’ sorprendente ascoltare musica che suona libera, espressiva, strutturata e creativa alo stesso tempo.
06. Claudio Monteverdi - The Vespers of the Blessed Virgin by John Eliot Gardiner (Archiv - 1990).
E’ stata la mia introduzione al mondo della musica antica. Le sonorità e le loro implicazioni architettoniche hanno lasciato un segno indelebile nel mio subconscio musicale.
07. Anton Webern - The Complete Webern - Pierre Boulez/Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (Deutsche Grammophone - 2000).
Forse il primo minimalista contemporaneo? Webern rappresenta una oggettiva lezione nell’uso dei colori strumentali e nella chiarezza dei pensieri musicali.
08. Xenakis - Metastaseis, Pithopracta and Eonta (Le Chant de Monde - 1965).
Questi primi lavori di Iannis Xenakis hanno indicato una nuova direzione nella musica composta. Ho sempre ammirato il suo metodo e ho sempre desiderato capire di più delle sue manipolazioni matematiche.
09. J.S.Bach - Six Sonatas for Harpsichord and Violin: Maya Homburger & Malcom Proud (Maya Recordings - 1997).
Essendo sposato con la violinista barocca Maya Homburger l’incontro con Bach era inevitabile. Con l’arpista irlandese Malcom Proud ho ascoltato la musica da camera di Bach in uno straordinario scenario di bellezza e lucentezza con un eccezionale comunicatività tra violino ed arpa.
10. J.S.Bach - St. Matthew Passion John Eliot Gardiner with the English Baroque Soloists (Archiv - 1989).
La più incredibile performance mai eseguita!
