Scott Dubois: Banshees
Questo album del chitarrista americano Scott Dubois segna un deciso incontro tra il free ed il bop. L'impostazione dei brani, le esposizioni dei temi con sax e chitarra che si muovono all'unisono, è infatti di natura tradizionale. A confondere le acque ci sono gli accenti spostati, la melodia un po' stiracchiata, ma insomma, la concezione è schiettamente bop. A volte persino risaputa.

Poi ci sono gli interventi solistici, che si muovono invece su territori più liberi, a tratti decisamente free, e con un linguaggio di stretta contemporaneità. Il risultato di questa giustapposizione è curioso, a tratti spiazzante.

Una sorta di altalena tra passato e presente, affrontati con piglio deciso ed un sound di rara compattezza.

Completano il quadro una traccia più meditativa (Canaria), ed un finale maestoso, quasi solenne.
