Scott DuBois

Guitarist/Composer and ACT recording artist Scott DuBois’s music is described by Jazz Times as "fascinating" and "brilliant"; by All About Jazz as "wondrous, chilling, atmospheric, and powerful as can be"; and by The New York City Jazz Record as "captivating music for the meditative thinker." He has recorded two albums with David Liebman for the Soul Note record label, Monsoon (2004) and Tempest (2006), and three albums for the Sunnyside record label, Banshees (2008), Black Hawk Dance (2010), and Landscape Scripture (2012). His Black Hawk Dance album received a 5-star review in DownBeat Magazine and his Landscape Scripture album was named one of the "Top 10 Jazz Albums of 2012" by National Public Radio. In 2015 DuBois signed with the ACT record label and released his sixth album Winter Light which was named as one of the best "Albums of the Year" by the New York City Jazz Record, one of the "Best Releases of 2016" by All About Jazz, one of the "25 Favorite Discs of 2015" by New York City’s Downtown Music Gallery, the "#1 Jazz Album of 2015" by Poland's LongPlay, one of "ten albums of 2015 to track down" by The Los Angeles Times, one of the "Best Albums of the Year 2016" by All About Jazz Italia, and one of the best "Albums of the Year" in Germany’s Fono Forum classical and jazz magazine. DuBois' next record Autumn Wind, featuring his quartet of the past ten years + a string & woodwind octet, will be released in October 2017 on the ACT record label. In addition to being part of the New York City jazz scene for the past two decades, DuBois has toured extensively with his quartet and many internationally-renowned musicians performing at jazz festivals and clubs throughout North America and Europe. In 2005 DuBois was also selected as a Semi-Finalist in the Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition. New York City’s Downtown Music Gallery wrote that Scott is "one of the best and most adventurous guitarists in New York City” and Spain’s largest jazz media source Tomajazz calls Scott "one of the best modern jazz guitarists." The Scott DuBois Quartet, featuring Gebhard Ullmann on tenor saxophone and bass clarinet, Thomas Morgan on bass, and Kresten Osgood on drums, performs DuBois’s unique, masterfully-crafted original compositions with dynamic group improvisation and interaction, creating massive, colorful landscapes and a spiritual intensity that cuts straight to the heart.

Ottimo chitarrista ed eccellente compositore, il quarantenne Scott DuBois è tra i musicisti più interessanti in circolazione e negli ultimi anni ha proposto lavori di tutto rispetto, tra i quali spicca nel 2015 Winter Light, per la ACT, in quartetto con Gebhard Ullmann, Thomas Morgan e Kresten Osgood, cioè la medesima formazione di questo Autumn Wind, uscito nel 2017 per la stessa etichetta tedesca e che ha tuttavia la particolarità di gettare un ponte tra musica classica e jazz.
