AA.VV.: Back to Peru Vol. II - The Most Complete Compilation of Peruvian Underground ‘64-74
In questo doppio si spazia in un fecondo decennio di rock peruviano, momento di apertura alle influenze più varie da miscelare a elementi originali: psichedelia, soul, garage, pop, latin, stranezze di ogni tipo, echi di Santana e dei 13th Floor Elevator, questi solo alcuni degli ingredienti di queste trentaquattro canzoni, la cui storia è raccontata in un succoso booklet di accompagnamento.
Band dai nomi improbabili - o più semplicemente con un apostrofo e s finale che "fa tanto americano" come per i Los Drag's, Los Shain's, Los Teddy's o Los York's - e solisti dal soprannome poco invitante come Jean Paul El Troglodita. Riletture di Hendrix o dei Sandals e cani che abbaiano in mezzo alla canzone [accade in "Guau Guau A Go-Go"], strumentali alla Joe Meek, acidità in dose massiccia e ruvida funkyness si succedono in una specie di trip da cui risulta difficile staccarsi.
Tra i nostri preferiti, ma la scelta non è facile, sicuramente la leggerezza californiana dei Telegraph Ave, l'irresistibile inno alla marijuana di Los Destellos, le chitarre dei Pax, il groove del già citato Jean Paul El Troglodita [il cui canto ruvido non può che rapire], in un crescendo quasi lisergico che avrete voglia di condividere con chi lo può apprezzare. Magari qualcuno vi guarderà come se foste dei pazzi a dimenarvi con questa roba, ma fa parte del gioco!
