Kat Parra: Azucar de amor

La cantante Kat Parra ha trovato il modo migliore di esprimersi musicalmente confrontandosi con la musica dei paesi di lingua spagnola. Non solo i ritmi più famosi e conosciuti di salsa, merengue e mambo, ma anche canti provenienti dalla tradizione degli ebrei sefarditi in Spagna o afro-peruviani. Il tutto senza mai dimenticare l'amore per il jazz. Azucar de amor dimostra chiaramente questi interessi della Parra, a partire dalla title-track, di Stanley Turrentine, e passando per brani dagli arrangiamenti (del co-produttore Wayne Wallace) piú impegnativi.

Troviamo anche due sempre-verdi come "Misty" di Erroll Garner e "Night in Tunisia", che vengono trasformati su ritmi di bolero e salsa, ottimamente interpretati da una band che cambia continuamente di formato e dalla voce della leader, sicura e precisa sugli intricati ritmi.

Il suo latin jazz guarda a tante tradizioni, con brani danzabili e non, messi insieme in un disco divertente, che ben si adatta alla stagione estiva, da ascoltare fra un cuba libre ed una caipirinha.
