Sophie Lüssi, Sandra Weiss, Fridolin Blumer, Andreas Wettstein: Atlantic Puffin

Un clima che ricorda abbastanza da vicino il versante più spigliato, fluido, incalzante (quanto assolutamente incruento) di certo jazz californiano anni Cinquanta, è quanto ci giunge come primo input da questo album anni Venti del secolo successivo (incisione del febbraio 2022, per l'esattezza) nato non sulla West Coast USA, bensì in terra elvetica.

Certe intermittenze classicheggianti (cameristiche, in particolare) si fanno largo per la verità già fin dal terzo brano (il secondo ampio, dopo la prima delle varie intercapedini che si frappongono appunto fra gli episodi più dilatati dell'album, specificatamente i sei valzer ornettiani, nessuno dei quali supera il minuto e mezzo), ma già qui si capisce come il gioco a rimpiattino fra le varie anime di questo cd di piacevolissimo ascolto debba ritenersi una sua costante, probabilmente la sua chiave di lettura più corretta (nonché voluta dal quartetto). E non è neanche così automatico che la presenza costante del violino e/o i momenti in cui il fagotto rimpiazza il sax alto debbano esser letti come i più "eurocentrici" dell'album: tutto può variare in un battibaleno, tornare indietro, mordersi in qualche modo la coda di continuo.

Tutto ciò determina, accanto alla piacevolezza di cui sopra, magari qualche minimo rischio di epidermicità, di pur lieve calligrafismo, ma i pregi complessivi oltrepassano largamente questi eventuali, piccoli nei, anche perché l'album si regge su un buon gusto costante, su un'eleganza e un'intelligenza (un'arguzia, anche) che non abbandonano mai la nave. Che di conseguenza ci trasporta per questi tre quarti d'ora appena scarsi di musica senza che alcun beccheggio possa minimamente urtarci.
