Jerry Weldon: The Summit

Read "The Summit" reviewed by Jack Bowers

"Keep it swinging." That is the concise credo of veteran tenor saxophonist Jerry Weldon who talks the talk and walks the walk on this galvanic concert date recorded in November 2024 at the New Brunswick (New Jersey) Performing Arts Center. The Summit is the name Weldon has bestowed on his able-bodied sextet, which he formed during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020-22. Peter Lin AAPI Jazz Collective: Identity

Read "Identity" reviewed by Jack Bowers

Taiwanese-American trombonist Peter Lin formed the New York-based AAPI Jazz Collective in 2018 to amplify the voice of jazz musicians of Asian American and Pacific Island lineage. Guest trumpeter Brandon Choi sits in on four numbers, vocalist ...

Una visione orchestrale matura, ricca di tensione e dalla bella carica spettacolare. Trasferitasi da Yokohama negli Stati Uniti ...

The Radam Schwartz Organ Big Band: Message from Groove and GW

Read "Message from Groove and GW" reviewed by Jack Bowers

Liner notes notwithstanding, the alliance of a big band and organ is hardly unique—Jimmy Smith, Richard “Groove" Holmes and Joey DeFrancesco are organ maestros who have been there and done that; even the great Oscar Peterson once dipped his toes into that water. Having said that, organist Radam Schwartz and his power-laden New Jersey-based ensemble do the concept proud on Message from Groove and GW, burning on all cylinders and swinging as hard and as often as any band has ...
