Arild Andersen/Paolo Vinaccia/Tommy Smith: In-House Science

Read "In-House Science" reviewed by Karl Ackermann

Arild Andersen's superb trio with tenor saxophonist Tommy Smith and drummer Paolo Vinaccia had previously released two ECM albums, Live at Belleville (2008), and Mira (2014). Smith and Andersen joined the saxophonist's frequent collaborators, the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra for Celebration (2015) which included “Independency, Pt. 4" from Belleville. In-House Science is the second live album from the trio.Andersen's long career began in the late 1960s jumping right to well established artists such as George Russell, Don Cherry, ...

Arild Andersen: The Rose Window - Live at Theater Gutersloh

Read "The Rose Window - Live at Theater Gutersloh" reviewed by Maurizio Zerbo

Yelena Eckemoff Quartet: Everblue

Read "Everblue" reviewed by Neri Pollastri

Yelena Eckemoff Quartet: Everblue

Read "Everblue" reviewed by Dan McClenaghan

In a quick follow-up to her masterful two CD set Lions, Russian-born and now North Carolina-based pianist Yelena Eckemoff offers up Everblue, the most “ECM Records-sounding" set not on that deservedly esteemed label. It is, rather, released on her own L&H Productions. The names of the sidemen on the date explain in part the ECM-like sound: saxophonist Tore Brunborg, bassist Arild Andersen, and drummer Jon Christensen, the Norwegian contingent, are all long time ECM Records artists, as leaders ...

VOSSA JAZZ Voss March 28 -29, 2015 Vossa Jazz, founded in 1973, an annual three-day event with a great variety of groups and acts, is a highly prestigious jazz festival in Norway. Thanks especially to its commissions and awards, it has an important national and international function. In 1983 the festival became the first in Europe to start assigning commission work. After more than 30 years the series has become an impressive list including ...

Yelena Eckemoff Trio: Lions

Read "Lions" reviewed by Dan McClenaghan

Yelena Eckemoff has a lot to say artistically. The Russian-born, classically-trained pianist--now home-based in North Carolina--has released eight jazz albums in the past nine years, sets that are packed to the digital rafters with close to the time limit for the CD format--in the 70-plus minute range. For Lions, the ideas spilled over onto two CDs, a ninety-four minutes of music that is--according to the set's drummer, Billy Hart--prophetic. Eckemoff has a way of working with themes, with ...

Arild Andersen, Paolo Vinaccia, Tommy Smith: Mira

Read "Mira" reviewed by Alberto Bazzurro
