Guitarist Brian Hughes might not consider comparisons between Fast Train To A Quiet Place and early Pat Metheny Group albums all that flattering, but he should. Strange story here, I was sitting in my hotel room in Toronto last week (August ) reading my Mac User, not paying too much attention to the wails from my daughter coming from the bathroom....bathday on holiday?) Suddenly my musical tastebuds were awakened by a programme on TV from a local jazz festival. As if hit by a mule, I sat up to take notice of a new name to me, namely Brian Hughes.
